Spirulina Shakeup

Breakfast for many of us is often short of time, why not start your day with this delicious Spirulina based drink which you can make in just a few minutes. This nutritious smoothie can also be enjoyed anytime of the day to feed and revive a weary body. 

For those of you who are wondering what on earth this remarkable powder is, let me share with you that Spirulina is a type of blue-green algae with strong antioxidant qualities. Studies have shown that it reduces inflammation, promotes healthy aging and is rich in a range of vitamins and minerals essential for maintaining a healthy immune system, like vitamins E, C, and B6. Miracle food, so why not start your day with this magical powder and have a spring in your step for hours.

Ingredients

  • 1 ripe banana
    - peel removed
  • 200ml applejuice
    - chilled/ 400ml for a larger drink
  • 1-2 tsp Spirulina powder
  • 1 tbsp plain yoghurt
    - dairy or non dairy

Instructions

  • 01 Place all ingredients in an electric liquidiser.
  • 02 Liquidise fast until smooth.
  • 03 Drink immediately.

Notes

Be warned Spirulina has a very distinctive taste and green colour so please use sparingly. The yoghurt can be either dairy or non dairy based. If you wish for more to drink, double up the apple juice (make it 400ml of juice).
