Hot Garlic Sourdough Baguette

Hot garlic bread made with a sourdough baguette. Best made with a quality garlic butter using unsalted butter, however, a non dairy alternative will work also.

180ºC

Ingredients

  • 1 medium sourdough baguette
    - store bought
  • Garlic Butter
  • 150g unsalted butter
    - softened
  • 2-4 cloves of garlic
    - crushed
  • Other
  • 2 sheets of tin foil
    - same size

Instructions

  • Make garlic butter:
  • 01 In a medium sized bowl add soft butter and crushed garlic. Mix well.
  • Prepare baguette:
  • 02 Take a bread knife and cut vertical slices through the baguette but only 3/4 of the way through, leaving the base (this holds the baguette together). Lift and place onto a double sheet of tin foil.
  • Assemble:
  • 03 Using a flat bladed knife heavily butter in-between each slice and eventually all over the top. Fold the tin foil around the baguette and wrap up like a parcel.
  • Bake:
  • 04 Place on a baking tray and bake in the oven for a good 40-45 minutes. Prior to serving (say 5 minutes or so) open up the tin foil to give the baguette a final ‘toasting’ in the hot oven.
  • Serve:
  • 05 Take to the table hot, either in the tin foil or on a bread board.

Notes

Delicious when using a sourdough baguette, however, any French style bread will work well also - brown or white. If by error you cut through the baguette when preparing for the butter, do not worry just sandwich together using the butter. Freezes well when assembled with the butter but not cooked. Allow to defrost whole and then bake.
