Fried Cheese

A traditional Greek melted cheese recipe enjoyed with fresh lemons and plenty of fresh crusty bread such as homemade sourdough. Noticeably different than their wonderful melting cheese dish ‘Saganaki’ but still equally as delicious and enjoyable.

Notes

In the Gulf region of the Middle East it is impossible to find traditional Greek Manouri cheese, so I have adapted the original recipe and use either fresh Akkawi cheese (low salt) or Halloumi. Please note, if the Akkawi cheese were to be excessively salty then I would always recommend soaking it in water prior to cooking (often advisable with many hard white Arabic cheeses). Please note this recipe is slightly different to the Greek deep fried cheese well known as 'Saganaki'.
