Vanilla Buttercream Icing

This very easy to make vanilla buttercream icing makes an excellent alternative to whipped cream and is a suitable icing for all cakes and sweet baking. Extremely versatile as can be used inside, on the top or all over your favourite cake. I recommend to use the best quality butter and vanilla paste to obtain the creamiest, buttery sweet delicious flavour.

Suitable for a 20 cm cake
10 minutes

Ingredients

  • 200g butter
    - softened
  • 400g icing sugar
    - lump free & sifted
  • 4 tbsp milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla paste

Instructions

  • 01 Place the butter into a large bowl and beat until soft. Add half of the icing sugar, vanilla paste and continue beating until smooth. Add the remaining icing sugar and one tablespoon of the milk and beat again until the mixture is creamy and smooth. Add the remaining tablespoon of milk if the buttercream is too thick.
  • 02 Use as desired.

Notes

I find the best way to make this buttercream is to use an electric hand mixer or follow the instructions and use a Kenwood Chef mixer (as seen in the cover image).
