Blueberries make the news!

06 • May • 2018

My first ever blog ‘news item’ for Jules of the Kitchen, and no better than to place a yummy blueberry tart as my first one. As everyone knows I just love blueberries and to bake them in this very easy, literally one mixing pot delicious pud is an excellent way to go. You will find the recipe in the dessert and baking section Blueberry Biscuit Tart

So why are these small purple/blue berries so nutritious? Let me share below some of the health benefits:

  • Blueberries are rich in calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorous, manganese, zinc, and vitamin K, which all help to improve bone health.
  • Blueberries are rich in vitamin C and vitamin B6.
  • Blueberries nurture and feed the skin.
  • Blueberries lower the dreaded bad cholesterol.
  • Blueberries are known to protect and promote a healthy heart.
  • Blueberries help the body to prevent cancer.
  • Blueberries wonderfully improve brain function.

Importantly, as blueberries are low in calories whilst full of fibre, they can help to assist weight reduction.

The recommended average consumption for these healthy ‘power punched’ fruits is a cup of blueberries a day…. to help keep the doctor away! 🙂

Happy eating and baking everyone.
